Enhanced Performance through Music and Identity
We aim to support the growth and development of the next generation of musicians who have the willingness and ability to become leaders in their field. This strand is targeted at young people aged
12-18 years of age. We envisage they will have at this stage in their musical journey reached a musical standard equivalent to grade 7/8 or above.
Our Music Leadership Programme will involve young people in a structured programme of learning, knowledge sharing and developing behavioural techniques.
We have designed our programme to ensure young people have a range of skills that equip them for taking an active lead in those areas of their lives that mean the most to them. In our Music
Leadership work we have sought to ensure young participants are key to decision-making, designing and delivering events and activities. The different settings in which the work takes place ensure the
young participants are exposed to a diverse range of environments and opportunities.
The outcomes for young people include heightened skills and stronger leadership competencies in planning, presentation, communication, working with and leading others, self-awareness, relationship
management, taking the initiative, assertiveness, risk-taking, assessing and listening.
Our experience shows that the benefits to young people of a music leadership programme extend beyond their musical interests and are also applicable to many other areas in their lives. Therefore, as
well as possessing new skills and knowledge, participants emerge from the Music Leadership Programme as more capable and confident young people.
